February 11, 2013:
Attention Wrestlers and Parents (See bottom of announcements or the "Forms" page to access the flier):
This is an Amazing Opportunity for Your Wrester!!
Do you want to be tough? Do you want to be able to out battle your opponents? Do you have a dream of becoming an State or NCAA champion some day? Or maybe you want to excel as a MMA fighter after your wrestling career? If you do now is the time to get involved with Greco-Roman wrestling! In order to become an Olympic, World, NCAA, or State Champion, you have to wrestle all three styles of wrestling. Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman are the three styles I am talking about. Yes, Greco teaches you upper body wrestling techniques. However, Greco-Roman wrestling teaches and trains you in so many more areas of the sport. Besides becoming a dangerous wrestler with throws, Greco-Roman teaches great pummeling and great hand-fighting skills. Greco develops super core strength and outstanding cardiovascular conditioning. It allows you to shut down your opponent’s attacks and neutralizes many lower body attacks. I want to let you know about a camp that will help you with the Greco-Roman style of wrestling.
Justin Ruiz, 7 x U.S. Nationals Champion (Greco-Roman) and Asst. Coach at UVU will be teaching two camps in February. The first will be held on February 18th – 20th from 6-8 pm at Orem High School in Orem, UT. This first camp will be for grades K-6th and the cost is $100. The second camp will be held on February 25th – 27th from 6-8 pm at Orem High School in Orem, UT. This second camp will be for grades 7th -12th and the cost is $100. Registration will be at the door from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm for both camps. Greco-Roman wrestling technique will be taught at both of these camps and will provide instruction to youth who will be competing in Greco-Roman events throughout the spring and summer or for those wrestlers who just want to add an extra arsenal to their technique. This camp will make the participants feel more comfortable with the Greco-Roman wrestling style and increase participation in Greco-Roman wrestling events. If you have any questions, please email Justin at [email protected] or message him via Facebook.
It is an amazing opportunity to be able to train & learn from one of the best wrestlers around! If you are interested in attending one of his camps now is the time. I have also included some of Justin Ruiz many accomplishments below so that you will know a little bit more about him. Justin Ruiz knows wrestling!!
“You fight for points that don’t come easy, you fight to make it on teams, you are fighting to medal at the tournaments. You absolutely have to fight for every inch and the word used is literally ‘pummel’. Some of the most mentally tough men I know are Greco-Roman wrestlers” – Steve Fraser, U.S. National Greco-Roman Coach
